Collect every planet, every moon, every asteroid, every comet — weigh the lot — and you still have only two tenths of one per cent of this solar system's mass. The other 99.8 per cent is the Sun.

Put it another way: about one point three million Earths could fit inside it by volume. Not alongside it. Inside it.

Every second, the Sun fuses roughly six hundred million tonnes of hydrogen into helium. That constant nuclear burn is not just heat and light — it is the gravitational anchor that keeps every world in its orbit. Without it, the planets don't slow down. They simply leave.

We don't live in a solar system so much as we live in the Sun's extended neighbourhood — and it tolerates us.
